Hidden treasures amidst natural beauty
13 to 18 mile loop walk from Newark DE into White Clay Creek Park
Bring at least two quarts of fluids and a couple snacks. This is a shady but warm walk.
Celebrate the historic survey of the Mason-Dixon Line, completed just over 250 years ago. Travel wooded trails, grassy meadows and wildflower patches with butterflies. Visit old and once-disputed colonial boundaries and see the stone markers originally placed by Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon two and half centuries ago. Our only walk to visit three states in one day will allow you to stand in all three, Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland, at the same time. Learn how Delaware got its funky shape. Enjoy the natural treasure that is White Clay Creek Park.
Paved and gravel, some grassy areas and lots of wooded trails of modest difficulty to make it interesting. Begins and ends at the Newark Transit Hub, with parking available and a short distance from Newark Amtrak and Megabus stops. Septa and Amtrak service to Wilmington available Sunday with DART bus to Newark.
Parking is available two blocks east at Newark High School, 750 E Delaware Ave.
